ICPO Advocates attend ECO in Istanbul

This week ICPO two of our advocates had the opportunity to join and take part of the European Congress on Obesity in Istanbul who had never attended before.
The European Coalition for People Living with Obesity ECPObesity had 40 advocates from around Europe who brought their lived experience to the event through presentations, co-chairing sessions, and chatting with delegates at the ECPO booth.
What they learned will be of enormous benefit to our ICPO members and for their own confidence and knowledge as they continue advocating for people with obesity.
It’s not easy to talk with so many strangers and to also listen and absorb scientific presentations and data from 8am to 6pm each day.
Both shared at the end of each day their favourite sessions and why.
“Day 2 at ECO2026 – Obesity in older adults at risk from disability. This session really hit home to me being a 66 year old man.
Subjects covered included muscle loss, nutrition, protein intake whilst taking GLP1.
Also covered muscle loss due to aging, sacropenia and frailty”
-Gerry Barrett
Catherine despite nerves, took to stage to share her personal experiences of stigma.
She was excellent and people commented on it afterwards how impactful she was!
A huge thanks to ECPO for providing this opportunity to take part in the congress, and in the training for our advocates over the past week.
