ICPO attends PPI Ignite 10th Annual Summer School in Limerick

Last week we were delighted to attend the PPI Ignite 10th Annual Summer School in Limerick.
It’s so beautiful when you get the opportunity to attend events like The 10th Public and Patient Involvement Summer School in University of Limerick.
It gave me a great insight into what Researchers, academics, health professionals, and others into how they are striving forward to reach out and have a two-way dialogue with the public and patients.
Including the public and patients will help them design a fit for purpose Health Agenda which will help them to understand on the needs of the public and patients.
Among the workshops and talks I was able to attend were. Can we the patients care, research and transform health systems. Introduction to public patient involvement (PPI) in research. Creating inclusive PPI.
A decade of PPI in Ireland on day 1 and PPI in cancer research. PPI Ignite Network 2021-2026 on day 2.
As one of my secondary school teachers would reminds us….The more we know the more we know we don’t know
Gerry Barrett, ICPO
This quote for me (Image 1) encapsulates the experience of attending the PPI Summer School held in UL. When considering any health care issue, we all know the importance of researchers for the future of any disease, the health care professionals for the treatment of same. Yet how can either lab work or treating patients be complete or whole without the voice of the lived experience. PPI is just as important within these partnerships to guarantee a healthier future for so many.
I certainly learned it is not a them & us, rather it is an us to achieve superior outcomes
