Ireland’s Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly, and Minister for Public Health, Well Being, and National Drugs Strategy, Frank Feighan, unveiled the Healthy Weight campaign under the Healthy Ireland Framework.
This initiative aims to assist individuals in their 20s and 30s in preventing weight gain by emphasising four key areas: sleep, stress management, physical activity, and nutrition.
Minister Donnelly highlighted the multifaceted causes of overweight and obesity, including environmental factors, access to nutritious and affordable food, physical activity levels, genetic predispositions, and lifestyle choices in an article on Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown PPN
The Healthy Weight campaign is designed to provide practical, expert advice on behaviors affecting weight, supporting adults in leading healthier lives.
Targeting 25 to 34-year-olds, the campaign will utilise social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok to disseminate information.
Developed in collaboration with Safefood and the HSE’s Health Promotion team, the initiative underscores the importance of good nutrition, stress management, adequate sleep, and regular physical activity.
