World Patient Safety Day calls for global solidarity and concerted action by all countries and international partners to improve patient safety.

The Day brings together patients, families, caregivers, communities, health workers, health care leaders and policy-makers to show their commitment to patient safety.
The resolution WHA 72.6 ‘Global action on patient safety’ recognizes patient safety as a global health priority and endorses the establishment of World Patient Safety Day to be observed annually on 17 September.

Patients for Patient Safety Ireland are calling for action.
Under the WHO theme, Safe Care for Non-Communicable Diseases, the group of patient safety advocates is urging government, the HSE, health insurers, advocacy organisations, education partners and community services to work together so every person in Ireland can access safe, integrated and personalised care.

We are delighted to see obesity being one of the first priorities for action.
In the immediate to short term, the group is calling for obesity to be included in the Chronic Disease Management Programme, with full funding and nationwide rollout of the HSE Model of Care for the Management of Overweight and Obesity, recognising the major risk to health, workforce participation and healthcare costs.
At ICPO we support this call to action and urge others to do the same.
